Busy Busy

Lots going on

Lovely nephews wedding last weekend

A really lovely day and a very special couple

A missed tractor run Monday as I wasn't feeling great

But I managed to make the lunch

Then back to work

Fast forward to today

Hubby's 50th Birthday

He's taken Nellie off to run from Bude to Holsworthy as part of the 100 years of Fordson national run

Lunch at a local pub

The other woman...

Luckily I was between learners at lunchtime

This evening it's the tractor 'do' at Holsworthy

Tomorrow it's pack for another weekend away

For another nephews wedding

See...busy busy!!

Can't Be Bothered

That would be me at the moment then

I made the mistake of looking back at my past garden photos last night

My plants are still at the farm

I've been down there this morning and found tree branches dumped on some

Others are starving in their pots

They're all grown in with grass and something inside me has just snapped

I've managed to get four small ones into the car

That will be it for today as I have to get ready for a family wedding away tomorrow

Hubby said he would sort out a proper place for my pots when we moved here

Level and with our old patio slabs laid down

He hasn't

He didn't want them to come here as it would be like saying his Father is never going to honour his promises

I no longer care anything about what his Father may or may not do

I just need a home

And my plants are a link to my past

Seeing plants from my parents garden shoved aside and neglected is a step too far

I also have the Collabear rose, tended by my maternal grandmother

It will be coming home no matter what

From hence forth one day a week will be spent on plan get the garden home

Our weather is as dull as my mood

Whilst hoovering out the car I felt a few spits of rain

The fire is already lit

I can hear birds singing beautiful songs as they do just before a shower

I care not a jot what we eat this evening as long as I don't have to cook it

The car needs washing and I think I'll run it through the car wash this evening possibly calling in for some grab and go food on the way home

Yesterday eldest took me out for a Mothers Day treat to Tea On The Green where we indulged in sandwiches and cake

We shared both and were still stuffed beyond our breeches

It was mighty cold in the morning though

The afternoon warmed slightly and we went to Rosemoor

My favourite place was the greenhouse where freesias are fragrantly blooming

It was out of the wind too

There were loads of lovely tulips flowering in the cottage garden

Nearer to home bluebells flourish in the woodland

Wild garlic grows prolifically

There's always the long trudge back up the hill

I hope everything fits and goes together for the wedding tomorrow

It will be good to catch up with my family who I don't see often enough

Anyway Happy Easter everyone

The Swallows Return

Today I saw my first swallows of the year

Two to be precise

Dancing in the sky against a wonderful blue background

Most of my day has been spent weeding the raised garden around the patio

Only now am I realising what will do where

Some parts are dry

Some damp

Some really shady and some sunnier

The large arch has to move

It's tilting precariously and I need to dig out brambles from behind it

I hope I won't encounter too much trouble from the master when asking to get it shifted up onto the garden

It's not even slotted together properly

Just kind of dumped and left

It needs a good clean and solar lights twisting round it

Then if in a sunnier position plants can grow up both sides

And look pretty

I like pretty

As soon as the bulbs are over I'll be temporarily hoiking them out in order to dig in some shrubs

And fillers

Then the bulbs can scatter into the spaces

I am rather feeling the effects of the days toil but it's a good feeling

Tomorrow I'm helping eldest and her hubby concrete a path

Think caveman is otherwise occupied

I'd better sleep well tonight!

This beautiful early evening finds me exhausted

It's been a very hectic day workwise

And another forecast for tomorrow

Things are changing in the way diplomas are funded and assessed starting next month so I seem to be acquiring more than my fair share of students at the moment

I have agreed to this

It's just that I keep getting accosted by potential learners whilst visiting others and I'm not au fait with all the funding gubbins so my head is in a whirl

Youngest is on a mega organise Mother effort bless her!

At the moment the rest of the tribe are at the farm logging

I am home preparing a roast chicken tea

And sorting laundry

Oh and noticing the absolute state of this cottage thanks to some gorgeous sunshine

The windows all need another clean

Heidi has obviously come in wet and muddy and rubbed up against just about everything

I've shaken out the rugs that appeared to be full of sand

The beach has been visited three times in the past week and Heidi's coat has the capability of hoovering up an awful lot of beach!

Dust...don't get me started on the dust

It really is awful

But my feet and head are both throbbing

I am only human

Everywhere needs cleaning, rubbing down and painting

In a grunge colour

But the outside walls need plastering so grunge paint will have to wait

My goodness I am soooo tired

A Simple Soul

I am indeed a simple soul at heart

Nothing makes my heart swell quite the same way as a full log store or well stocked pantry

So imagine my delight last Saturday at seeing

The sun is shining gloriously so I must away to my tasks before seeing a learner

I had quite a few people booked in for visits this week

And all of them have changed their appointment times days or both

My poor diary looks rather messy now!

The Weekend

Well well well

What a loaded weekend

Saturday spent here

After our drink and biscuits Ben took us on a tour of the woodland that he manages

Different areas treated in different ways

He is introducing some different broadleaf tree varieties in case the sweet chestnuts succumb to disease

This charcoal burner gets moved into situ rather than bringing the logs to it

Ben says that as the years go by the quality of wood is improving through being managed so he doesn't make as much charcoal as he used to as it's only the scrap wood that gets burned

Lunch was eaten and more tea drunk

Next it was a look at the workshop and tools of the trade

All very interesting

Then the vegetable garden

We were allowed up on his raised decking area

Never knew outdoor pool tables existed before

Oh and believe it or not there's a wild swimming pool

Of course with another outside oven and bar area

Next THE house

To be honest after 15 years it's starting to get to the point where it needs a little attention

Some of the plaster has come away from the straw bales

Some of the shakes on one corner of the roof are beginning to look worn

But these repairs are no different to what any house requires

Ben says his saviour has been led lighting

As using solar power and storing it now he can enjoy a decent amount of light without draining the batteries too quickly

It did seem a little smaller inside than on the telly

But it has a families worth of furniture in now

And there were probably 16 of us

So no not small!

The Esse cooker that was originally in the kitchen has been replaced by a Rayburn

I believe the remains of the original are in the outdoor kitchen where Ben lived for the first few years

I didn't take photos inside the house

It seemed too intrusive for me to want to do so

A lovely day with lots of memories
