A Taster

Well it happened

...

A church

An Order of Service

Flowers

A moment of fun

Then

We had so much fun

...

But lots of the photos are weirdly changing shape when I try and upload them to here

...

So for now that's it!

Ticks

Oh my, what a busy time we're having in the run up to our eldest daughters wedding on Saturday

...

Church cleaned...tick

New battery candles ordered...tick (old candles packed away for move and left with batteries inside, bad idea)

See through shirts returned, and more expensive but non see through shirts purchased...tick

Bridesmaids dresses collected...tick

Weight loss successful so look less like a ship about to set sail...tick!

All excess junk moved to inlaws...tick

Excitement building...tick

...

Oh if only I could share the plans!

But I can't

So until next week

...

Just time to share the Cornish Fairing recipe

...

4oz butter

4oz sugar

8oz plain flour

2 tsp bicarb

2 tsp baking powder

4 tbs golden syrup

3 tsp ground ginger

2 tsp mixed spice

1/2 tsp salt

Rub butter into flour spices and salt. Add sugar. Mix in warmed syrup. Use tsp to form small rounds on lined baking trays spaced well apart. I cook mine in a fan oven on 180 c. Small ones cook in around 10 mins

...

Be careful of strange winds that do funny things!!

Keeping Active With A Busted Toe

A week ago last Tuesday whilst walking barefoot around the kitchen I caught my little toe smack into an apple crate

...

Ouch

...

Ascertaining that it was something a little more than a knock youngest bound two toes together and since then I've watched the enormous bruise change through many colours

...

Remarkably that bruise has faded fast

...

Unfortunately my little toe is still swollen and mighty painful

...

As in throbbing through the night painful

...

I've hobbled around the best way I can in some remarkably tasteful footwear

...

But two weeks tomorrow daughter gets married

...

And therein lies a problem

...

How on earth am I going to cope with my sensible but heeled shoes

...

I've developed rather a sexy lurch

...

Thinking that I may have been too hasty in ripping off the binding some fresh will be going on shortly!

...

Ah well

...

Anyway changing the subject, yesterday morning hubby came back up to our room to inform me that we didn't have any biscuits

...

Now biscuits are something that I've been avoiding lately

...

But who am I to deprive my Lord and Master

...

So after seeing a few learners I came home and donned a pinny to get creating

...

Cornish Fairings

I hadn't made these for many a year

...

And after calculating how many calories were in each biscuit a strange thing happened

Well

...

There was a mighty gust of wind through the open patio door

...

The crockery cupboard flew open

...

In an instant a tea plate landed on the table followed by a mug

...

It became eerily silent apart from the kettle that had mysteriously switched itself on

...

I found next that a teabag had settled into the mug

...

Strange things I tell you, strange things can happen when you bake centuries old recipes and the wind is blowing in the right direction

...

I won't tell you of the voices in my head telling me 'it's only fifty calories in the Cornish Fairing', or you'll feel the need to send some men around dressed in white coats

...

I really must get the pain sorted out, I do believe it' s sending me quite silly!

Easily Distracted

Yep today I have been easily distracted all right

...

By the glorious Autumn weather

...

So what if I had marking to do

...

Such a day was not going to go by without taking my best four legged friend to the beach

...

We had a super long walk

...

A dip in the sea

...

Some lunch out

...

And Heidi thoroughly enjoyed herself

...

And so did I, also youngest came along

...

I think she enjoyed herself too!

...

We've dried oodles of laundry on the line

...

It billowed in the warm breeze all day long

...

This is evening I went for my dress fitting

...

We were ahead of time so called down to Bucks Mills

...

I really need to go to this place more often

...

It feels so special

...

Even the mighty slog back up the very steep hill!

...

Home once more and I set off to pick some blackberries in the fast fading light

...

Oh Autumn I do love thee so much

...

Especially when you treat us kindly with warm breezes and gentle sunshine

...

Dare I hope for another such a day full of fluffy clouds

That Time Of Year Again

Monday evenings

...

Mens skittles

...

So this evening I can watch what I like on the goggle box

...

Or indeed not have said box on if I wish

...

Hubby at skittles

...

Caveman 2 painting our vintage tractor

...

Daughter working 'till 3pm tomorrow

...

Don't get me wrong

...

I wouldn't want to live alone

...

But sometimes

...

A little alone time can be rather nice

...

Now I just have to curb a fit of the munchies!

Hidden Expenses

When our eldest daughter informed us of her wedding plans we stepped in and offered to help with the cost of the wedding

...

So when venue, food, and entertainment were booked we sat back and thought, now that's not too bad!

...

Now we're in the final run down to the big day, and the expense is racking up

...

Little things like ribbon and candles, umbrellas and shirts

...

What if's and just in cases!

...

We haven't gone mad, just want a lovely day with lots of good memories

...

Still

...

It doesn't come cheap!!

...

My final dress fitting is next Wednesday

...

So I'm planning on breathing in to account for a possible further couple of pounds off by the time the wedding comes around

...

Well that's the plan anyway

...

Youngest is making a start on the flower border around the patio

...

I want her to do it herself, that way I know she'll want to look after it rather than hope I'll take control

...

What I will do is to sort through some of my tubs and redo some into smaller more manageable ones to bring home on the patio to echo the planting in the borders

...

That way when I go out to tend to those I hope daughter will take the hint and see to hers!

...

So far she's been tempted by a pale pink geranium 'Dreamland' a mid pink anemone hybrid 'Serenade', and an hydrangea 'Simonet Blue'.

...

She also has a small collection of daffodils, tulips and snowdrops.

...

Small steps

On My Lap

Oh what a dreary day

...

Non stop wet falling from a leaden grey sky

...

Not a day for foraging along the hedgerows

...

For blackberries

...

Not a day to dance along a beach, with the sand between your toes

...

No indeed

...

Instead a day to hunker down

...

Appreciate that Autumn has arrived

...

To dream of cosy evenings by the fire

...

A time to rest

...

After a hectic evening

...

After much being and doing

...

So this evening

...

On my lap is this

So excuse me please

...

I'm going to peer into this book

...

And soak up some foodie loveliness

...
