Below Par

I now have proof that I'm not getting the bestest nights sleep around...

Last night I set the Fitbit to sensitive...

As opposed to normal the night before when I know I tossed and turned like crazy and woke up a few times...

I took myself upstairs at about 8:30 to read for a while...

By 9:30 eyelids were drooping...

But then...well we've all been there...

When we first moved to Little Winter I slept like a log...

I don't normally react to drinking tea later in the day, but maybe I should watch it...

The main culprit though is things going on overload...

Wedding planning, course, new job, finances, building work...

Aaagggghhhhh!

Any tips apart from taking off in a cloud of dust never to be heard of again?!

My New Best Friend

The other week I after much oohing and aahing ordered myself a Fitbit Alta...

DPD did their upmost not to deliver it to me and eventually lost the parcel...

Anyway...complaint registered...though I haven't had any response from them yet...a new Fitbit was on its way to me...

Yesterday was out of the box day and I think we're going to get along...

Hopefully it will give me just the motivation I need...

Though as I just discovered it doesn't seem to pick up walking barefoot on carpet...I was trying to get from 9964 steps to 10000, and it didn't count my attempt around the bedroom!

So it's still raining and last evening when we did have a dry spell it blew up a right old storm...I did peg washing on the line in a desperate attempt at drying it but most of it ended up in the grass!

Madly trying to fit everything in...

Hubby's paperwork...Monday job...new job and course work...last on the list is housework...but that's the way it is at the moment...

The rain is slowing down progress of the patio...plus we're all knackered!

Another niece got married at the weekend...no photo yet to share...

So that's me for now...hoping for a better nights sleep than last night...

Chilled

After yesterday's little wobble about the state of the cottage a big thank you for your kind words of support...

I managed to make some progress with clearing the area and it now is thankfully a place where you could possibly relax in if you were to have the time to!..

Unfortunately I can't do much about the dust except keep dusting when I can...

The kitchen is still very much a work in progress though, and the way I'm feeling could be for a day or two yet...

My joint hyper mobility syndrome is really playing up at the moment...

At our Monday Club things get stored in an under stairs cupboard which involves a lot of bending and twisting to access...

I'm trying to organise it so it's easier to take things out, but in the process have done too much of the bending and twisting and am now paying for it big time...

Some white chocolate helped ease the pain yesterday along with copious cups of tea...as recommended by yourselves...but goodness knows whose sweet ration I ate as well...everybody's probably...

Speaking of which...the meat rationing is going better than expected...

Packing up meal sized portions helped, however the milk situation is not so good...

Younger generation are still drinking far too much of the stuff, so we would definitely have had to barter on the black market for extra or keep cows...

Everything else seems ok, but I'm well aware that back in the day things just were not available to buy even if you had the points and money to buy them with...

If nothing else this rationing thing will keep our meat consumption to a reasonable level...cavemen I'm referring to you!

So I'll leave you with a picture of the good old holly and oak trees entwined...

And let's hope the nights don't pull in too quickly!

My Life In Words

Started feeling rather poorly last evening and sorry to report that nothing has improved this morning so currently wrapped in a blanket and sipping hot tea I've decided to weigh up my life...

Glass half empty scenario...

Dusty

Mud

Tired

Fed up

Used

Overwhelmed

Old

Frustrated

Poorly

Glass half full scenario...

Grateful

Appreciative

Thankful

Ok so I feel like crap...the mud and dust is getting to me and it's still spitting with rain...

I just hope...truly hope for the physical and emotional energy to make good the living area here at Little Winter today.

I started to briwax the dresser at the weekend and boy is it darn hard work buffing it all up. Yesterday after work I unpacked some ornaments and had a fiddle about placing things...yep in a cottage full of dust and mud!

What can I say I am a woman after all and do like things to be nice!

Still more buffing required...maybe another day though...

Next job is add these...

In with these...

Though I'm liking the look in the photo in reality they look a little sparse...

Now for the real brave bit...

Showing the yucky bit...

Necessary but evil...

Dust sheets and blankets everywhere...

Dogs don't wear wellies...

And outside...well...

Door step to side of cottage...

Outside patio doors...

So much as I'd love to get rid of the dust sheets...

Common sense says they stay...

Sad face!

Now I feel as though I've bared all.

Happy Summer Solstice

Hope you are all enjoying the Summer solstice today...

Skies have been a little grey and I'm none too hopeful of seeing much of the strawberry moon or honey moon...but I will gaze wistfully out of the window later on.

Whilst trudging through some woodland the other day I came across a holly and oak tree growing together...

They grow near the sacred Spring...

I guess from now on the holly will rule over the oak until Yule...

So be prepared...the nights will start drawing in from now on!

Ah well...J. x

Balmy June Days

With a definite pinch of salt...

Yes it's balmy here at Little Winter...

Yes the above photo was taken earlier today!

And the story of our lives at the moment is predominantly all about mud...

Outside...

And inside...

The shed in the picture is the old pigsty and is now our utility (read dump for everything we don't want in the house)...getting up there is so not fun at the moment...

Youngest has been home this morning and we have started sorting some of the baking ingredients...

Well it's a start anyway! Can't rush perfection can you?

We need to motivate the cavemen this evening into putting up some hooks and skirting board...

Only time will tell on this one...

Yesterday took me so out of my comfort zone as to be unreal...

I had an hour and a half journey to a three hour meeting...

Then another three parts of an hour to a learner...

Then back to the city...

And another hour and a half...plus ten minutes actually...as the sat nav decided to take me a different way around Exeter...on the way home...

But I did it!

And hopefully next time I have to do it I shan't keep waking up the night before worrying!

We've just had lunch and daughter needs to scoot off to college to her accounting course...she works presently with adults with learning disabilities, but hopes one day to get an accounting position...I foresee a long journey ahead!

Anyway...I really cannot procrastinate any longer...the washing will need attending to and I'm the woman for the job...

Wrap up warm and boots on and off on a slippery adventure I must go...

Weary

Last evening after accomplishing a tea of roasted lamb with all the trimmings I can only have been described as weary...

I can hardly believe that a full week has sped by without me getting the opportunity to leave a few words here...

So what have I been up to, and well you may ask...Monday was a full on work day followed by paperwork in the evening, Tuesday was all morning frantically finishing the dreaded VAT...just managed it! A visit to Lidl, then stop off to sort out wedding plans and stop eldest daughter panicking...deliver a couple invites then home to tea...Wednesday I popped out to visit a friend whose daughter was being induced...baby girl now safely arrived...later on I had a meeting with the man who's assessing me during my assessors course (very confusing), I then went a gathering elderflowers and started the first batch of cordial, Thursday I gathered a load more elderflowers and prepared some for the freezer and some are drying on cardboard as my dehydrator is still living miles from here! Friday morning was going to be relaxing however hubby needed something picking up from Barnstaple (miles away!) so off I trotted...and while I was going took youngest to Wicks with the wood they delivered wrongly and to collect the proper stuff...I'd like to call Wicks a name or two as it's been a catalogue of errors however I was brought up properly so shall only utter them to myself! In the afternoon I worked and into early evening arriving home to hubby avec visitors!...we ate very late at the local pub...Saturday morning found me muddling through some housework...well damage limitation really as the digger was back in action outside...the rains had come...and mud was getting trapsed everywhere...I had to meet learners after lunch and was supposed to be picking up a parcel on the way home as I'd diverted the delivery to the pick up point for DPD the day before as I was going to be out...no parcel...gee thanks...being held at Clyst Honiton depot on their tracker...err why? No explanation (read dopey forgot it?) Found customer service email and asked polite question...mail failure demon returned it to me! Grrrrr....anyway home and time to start the roast lamb. Digger being collected around six so caveman one and caveman two frantically digging trenches for retaining walls and drains...very sweaty...a third caveman...soon to be son in law...helped in the morning thankfully else they wouldn't have stood a chance at getting done...so tea and titter really until I realised I hadn't even begun to strain the first batch of cordial ready for boiling (oops) and to bed! So now it's Sunday...hubby is off on another tractor run shortly, we have a moat outside the patio doors that Heidi has taken to firstly drinking out of while walking in it then flopping down in...lovely! I have an anti terrorism course to complete and maybe a trip to the in laws house to collect some more 'stuff', not forgetting to boil the cordial and relax!

I've also managed to catch up on watching the sewing bee, rather them than me, though with some of the errors made I do wonder what the selection process consisted of?! The same with bake off really.

Nearly forgot to mention that hubby finally made the pantry cupboard shelves...xxx

I feel as though I've put back on some weight and am attributing this to bought in cakes rather than homemade...goodness knows what goes in them, but they don't fill you up...basically crap in posh packaging...I purchased them before the cooker arrived and hungry cavemen demanded cake! If it's there I'll eat it, and even more so with bought in bits. Hang head in shame as I've only myself to blame.

So the garden is a bomb site, the greenhouse neglected, the veg unplanted, the house dusty, the dog in need of a shower, the floor needs a scrub, but any work of this kind I feel would be futile at the moment, so as the birds are singing beautifully, it's not actually raining at the moment and I have breath in my body I intend to enjoy the day for what it is. Big smile...open heart to possibilities...and onwards!

Some photos that sum up the past week...

My favourite photo of the week though is this...

Until next time...J. X

And Life Just Got In The Way

What more can I say...good weather has allowed hubby to get a digger in and remove seven trailer loads of soil to form a sea of mud patio out the back...

Loads and loads of washing has spun through our life this week...dirty sweaty bodies make lots of laundry...

New jobs and continuing jobs keep me busy...

Son-shine has been home all week and it's been lovely...

Tomorrow I have to hug him goodbye again and it will be heart wrenching...

Our cooker has arrived and is being put through it's paces...

Skirting boards are beginning to appear in various rooms...

Our massive store of 'stuff' is starting to be whipped into shape...

Heidi is unintentionally bringing in mud on her paws and tummy each time she ventures outside then in again...

Tomorrow I really need to crack on with the VAT... A nemesis of mine for sure...

Work on Monday...meeting on Tuesday...so yep...VAT tomorrow!!

So until next time...have lots of fun...
