Seeking Comfort

My, we have had a wonderful weekend away visiting our son.

The weather was cold, but for the most part dry...which is more than I can say for here today.

Lights have been on all day...

Woodburner lit...

Hot beverages sipped at frequent intervals...

Anyway the weekend...how quickly it passed...

We arrived after eight Thursday evening and dined upon potato pasty with runner bean chutney, afters was an apple and cinnamon bun...delicious...

Friday morning sonny had to be off to work so we had a clean around.

A few diy bits, and then went for a bracing walk...

We went right around the lake...

Then took a look at the damage done by a tornado on Thursday...

This is not the JCB site son works at, but is just down the road...ish...from where he lives.

Then back to his to get lunch ready...more potato pasty! And mince pies with cream...

As son gets Friday afternoons off he came back for a late lunch...

Next we took a trip to Abbots Bromley...

A beautiful village, and home to the horn dance...

We were in need of refreshments and a little relief if you get my drift!

A signpost directed us to Cobwebs...

Where we sampled delicious cakes and forgot all about calorific values!

Back to get Chinese from Uttoxeter and collect Sunday roast supplies from Tesco.

Card games followed...

Saturday morning we set off to the Chatsworth Christmas fayre...

It was lovely...

We took hubby's sister with us and she really enjoyed the festive atmosphere...

Early in the afternoon we set off for Bakewell...

There were horrendous queues as there was a winter wonderland event on at the show ground.

Finally we parked the car and headed off over this bridge to Bakewell...

We found our way to the Bakewell pudding shop and cafe and once again forgot all about calories! Next we did something silly...despite being told that the winter wonderland event was a big flop we went...and guess what...

THEY WERE RIGHT!

The winter wonderland event with no wonder...a grotto with no Father Christmas, and instead of the promised live reindeer we saw a fair ride with horses with antlers struck on! Did I mention the mud?

Aha well...Better than a night in front of the telly I suppose!

Sunday morning I spent most of my time in the kitchen as we were expecting guests! A niece and nephew both attend Harper Adams university and were coming up for lunch.

We had roasted chicken and pork with the trimmings followed by apple crumble. More ignorance of calories...

Me and the boy!

Then the sad time came...

It was time to leave...

So today I have an ache in my heart...

The weather...well sorry but you are awful!

So I am seeking comfort...

By the fire and trying to do some paperwork.

Blessings J. x

  3. What a wonderful weekend but a shame about the Winter 'Wonderland'. I've heard weekend calories don't count anyway so I wouldn't worry. Lovely happy photographs. X

  4. Calories don't count running up to Christmas either so no need to give it another thought ;)
