What I Made With My Orts


Not pretty by any means...but sure tasts yummy...not that I've been allowed any on my SW diet...far too many syns. Inside that little roll is butter, brown sugar, raisins and mixed spice. Sorry birds...none for you today!

Yesterday found me ordering some cookery books relevant to eating during WW2. My father was in the Coldstream Guards at this time. Not long before he died he was adamant that I should write about it. Now I have in the past had poems published in various anthologies, and have always enjoyed writing...even so why he was so adamant I do not know. I feel quite upset with myself that over four years have passed and I haven't written a thing.

I'm not sure I want to delve too deeply into the battles that he fought...I know he suffered terrible nightmares. Maybe I could try the homefront route and find out more what that would have been like.

All I know at present is that I want and need to write something to lift the guilt I feel from my shoulders about this. And after all after being injured in France Dad did lots of cookery courses whilst recovering before being sent to Africa and Italy.

So and cooking on the homefront may be my best bet.
